Anna - The Joy of Dance & Fitness!
Anna with Mr. Beto Perez
I have many “joys” in my life but one particular joy I recently happened upon is both gratifying and rewarding. Dancing has always been a passion of mine that started when I was very young. I used to dance in my room
while listening to Michael Jackson and try to mimic his moves.
In high school I danced in a dance team but soon after graduating I put dancing aside to start working in retail. Life just kept moving along and I never really picked dancing back up even though I had told myself I was definitely going to keep dancing. In 2010 I took my first Zumba class at a Curves. It was a small class, but all of us ladies knew each other well. I had no
ideas what I was
about to experience. All I knew about Zumba was that it is a dance
fitness class set to international rhythms. The music started and I was hooked. Of course, I could not perfectly perform the steps, but over the next year I set out to learn as much as I could about Zumba. I loved how happy I was when I was in Zumba class and loved having fun with other people.
A little over 9 months ago I decided to become a Zumba instructor and it has been an experience like no other. I was nervous in the beginning, but the nerves disappeared and were replaced by feelings of joy very quickly. Seeing the smiling faces and helping other people achieve their weight loss goals is an amazing feeling. I do not teach in a gym so I really get to spend time with my students before and after class to help them with steps or just have a fun chat.
Every day I look forward to seeing my students in class and watching them have fun. I know how much Zumba helped me as a student with weight loss and just good ol' happy feelings. Knowing that I can bring that to other people while still getting my Zumba “fix” truly is a joy!
I met Anna when our mutual friend, Tamara, brought her to one of my Zumba classes. I was forever touched by something she had said to me upon meeting me for the first time. We stayed in touch through an occasional Zumba class, but mostly through Facebook. One day I happened to see a post of hers that read, "I cannot even explain the joy I get in teaching." After reading that simple post I knew I wanted her to write a little something for my Joy site. And here we are. If you're interested in taking a "joyful" Zumba class from Anna, you'll find her schedule by clicking right here. And if you'd like to leave her a nice comment or message, please do so below and I'll be sure she gets it! ~~Kim
