Gratitude Journal Workshops
Back in October, 2009 I was inspired by a young girl in Texas who was holding a workshop on gratitude and creating journals. This idea was so intriguing to me. I was amazed that she would actually put something like this together. I have been keeping a gratitude journal for more than six years. I'm slightly passionate about these two subjects. But it never occured to me do such an event! So, with a few questions for my darling friend known as @meganmonique in the Twitter world, and a strong will of my own to do something of value, I set the date for my own journal workshop.
January 10, 2010 was the first live event.
Two months worth of planning, ideas and a strong desire to share what works for me culminated into one beautiful day spent with friends. After a few minutes of mingling and munching on some mighty delicious snacks (including JOYful cupcakes) my guests and I sat in my family room and did introductions. I asked each woman to share their name with the group and what the reason was for them attending the workshop. I received an interesting mixture of responses, but the common theme seemed to be "I need more joy." One of my favorite responses was from a woman who said she really had no idea what she was getting into, but it sounded like something fun. Kudos to her for stepping out of her box and engaging with life by saying YES!
Deciding what to talk about was not difficult for me. Deciding HOW to talk about it was the challenge. I didn't want to go too deep or be too ethereal with my message to where my guests would look at me as if I had two heads. So after much thought, I decided to simply read an article I had written for a wonderful website called Owning Pink. I wrote this article from my heart, based on my life experiences, and with the intention that someone else could benefit from this powerful exercise in gratitude.
The workshop was creative, spirited, energetic, inspiring and most of all just plain fun. If you were one of my guests, THANK YOU for sharing your time with me. Your willingness to listen and participate was appreciated. The creativity you demonstrated with your journals was awe-inspiring to me. When everyone was gone and the house was quiet, all I could do was sit...and release tears of joy.
Everyone present was a gift. I thank each of you for being here and for all the wonderful comments you shared. Out of everyone that participated, there was one comment from a very special person that touched me the most. It was from my teenage daughter, Samantha, who had this to say, "Wow mom....the workshop was cool. When it's all over, I'm going to make a journal too."
My heart overflows. I made a difference to my own kid. Does it get any better than that?
XOXO
Kim
